Q:Hello. My mother (65 age) will be arriving soon as a new immigrant with a green card. She is a dialysis patient and undergoes twice-weekly dialysis in her home country. Once she arrives here, I would like to enroll her in a medical plan that has dialysis coverage. What are the options available for this since I believe to be eligible for Medicare, she needs to be in the US for 5 years? Thanks.

A:
We have numerous New Immigrant plans available. However, the plans are designed to offer coverage for the new illnesses and injuries that are contracted after their effective dates. The plans available will exclude the coverage for pre-existing conditions, preventative and routine care. The dialysis could only be covered under a domestic plan. I would verify her eligibility with your state department of insurance to determine what could be available for her. If she is eligible for any type of domestic coverage, she would be unable to purchase the plans from our website. Should you have additional questions please let us know. You may also call our office at +1 (866) 467-8289.
