Q:With all the flight cancellations, is there a travel insurance policy that will cover me if my flight is cancelled by the airline? My two grandsons and I are flying to Anchorage, Alaska to go on a cruise. We are flying home from Vancouver. If the flight to Anchorage is cancelled we will miss the ship and lose out on our entire cruise, plus the price we paid for the flight home from Vancouver. I know that the airline must refund me my fare if they cancel my flight but they have no responsibility for all the other money I will lose.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy. In order for the airline cancellation to be covered under the trip cancellation insurance, the cancellation reason must be listed in the policy. Unfortunately, if the airline cancels your flight and they reason is due to such things as they are short staffed, or they do not provide a reason then this is not covered in the base cancellation reasons. You may purchase cancel for any reason travel insurance to insure your trip cost in the event there is a cancellation due to a reason not listed in the policy. In order to be eligible for this coverage, you generally have to purchase within 10 to 21 days of the initial trip deposit date. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:Is PCR test covered in my insurance plan. I am an Indian visiting NJ.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. The insurance plans that offer coverage for COVID-19 can offer medical coverage for the COVID testing, if it were deemed medically necessary and was under a physician recommendation due to signs or symptoms for diagnostic purposes. The plans exclude elective testing or testing for travel purposes. Those expenses would have to be paid from your pocket. Q:Regarding Pilot disability InsuranceSince the benefit is a % of the salary, how do you calculate the benefit amount if I get the disability while furloughed or looking for a pilot job but not currently employed??Thanks,

A:
Underwriters make the determination on a number of factors, but typically if you have another source of disability coverage they take that into account as a part of income and will only supplement the difference. You may find and fill the application for a disability proposal here. Should you have additional questions or need further assistance, you may also call our office at +1 (866) 467-8289.
