Q:Hello, i am very confused about the covid 19 quarantine/isolation coverage in the insurance plans.More exactly, i will be travelling to Canada from Europe . Canada currently does not have a mandatory arrival quarantine requirement for me becvause i am fully vaccinated with 3 doses. However, they do on arrival random tests (i may por may not be selected, it is estimated that onlky 10-20% are selected for this test). IF the test comes back positive, i am put in isolation for 10 days. Will any insurance plan cover this isolation costs? I must enforce that it is not a mandatory arrival quarantine for everybody, i know that those are excluded from any insurance plan. It is a auqrantine after a test, and a document emited by the authority putting me into isolation. Is this covered or not?

A:
All coverages and guidelines are and can be plan specific. However, because it is not a mandatory quarantine, plans that provide trip delay benefits used for quarantine could provide coverage for your described scenario. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:Why is travel-related Covid test not covered in most plans? If the US Gov brings back the "negative covid test to fly" rule back, who would pay for the visitors' covid test (fixed vs comprehensive)? The plan or I would pay out-of-pocket? Thanks!

A:
COVID-19 testing for travel purposes is known as an expected expense due to travel. No insurance product will offer the coverage for this and you will have to pay for it from your pocket. When traveling abroad it would be necessary to plan accordingly for the expenses you will have to take part in. Q:I've already signed up for insurance according to my travel schedule. However, if I am confirmed with COVID-19 before the end date of the insurance and have to be quarantined, I'll be able to take a flight back home in 10 days. Then I have to be quarantined for about 9 days after the end of the insurance period. In this case, I wonder if I should re-sign up for 9 longer days just in case. Or, Is there no need to do that because the date of the COVID-19 confirmation is before the end of the insurance period? Please reply. Thank you.

Q:My father (never had any noticeable symptoms) got his routine health check ups done early this year and found he has some blockages in the heart valves. So doctor recommended to get the bi-pass surgery and his surgery was performed and he recovered pretty well and is in a good shape right now. So if he visited here and experienced any heart related issues after the policy date will it be considered as acute onset of pre existing condition and insurance gets covered ?. If so which insurance company is the best under this situation

A:
The plans available on the insurance marketplace for visitors are designed to offer the coverage for new illnesses and injuries contracted after the effective date and will exclude the coverage for pre-existing conditions, preventative and routine care. The Acute Onset benefit is designed to offer the possibility of coverage in case something were to meet the definition of its benefit. Please read over the plan benefits and eligibility of the plan you are wanting to purchase to be certain it will offer the acute onset benefit for your father's age group. It would be determined at the time of service based on the attending physician notes and lab report if his condition fell under the benefit.
