Q:I live in Maryland - and the new requirements are a little confusing. I am looking at the Atlas Comprehensive plans. I understand the part that says that if the parents are already in the US, you cannot buy this plan, My parents are not here yet. My question is about renewals - they will be here for 6 months and I would like to buy this in 3 month increments. Will this Maryland requirement cause a problem with the renewal i.e. if I buy now for 3 months (prior to their arrival), when I try to renew, will there be an issue as at that point, they will already be here in Maryland. Should I just buy it for 6 months right now ?

A:
As long as you purchase the policy before they arrive, then you would be able to renew it as needed. So you could purchase it for 2 or 3 months and then renew it before the expiration date. However, if the policy were to lapse/ expire and was not renewed on time, then at that point you would not be able to re-purchase. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Q:I will be in the US on a J-1 Short Term Scholar visa at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, for 4-5 months this year. Would you be able to provide me with details on the most basic policy that you offer, which meets the J-1 requirements of the US Department of State and Thomas Jefferson University

A:
I am attaching the link for you to access our J1 plans. They all meet the requirements of the J1 visa, however, your school requires a per policy maximum of at least 250,000. Therefore, whatever plan you decide on, you would need to choose an option of at least 250,000 for the policy maximum and the deductible you choose cannot be more than 500.00. J1 visa health insurance If you have any questions or need any assistance in purchasing a plan, you can contact our office at 1-866-467-8289 and we would be glad to help.

Q:My husband is coming to USA as a J1 research scholar and we need a health insurance for our family that meets the J1 compliance form requirements. Those requirements are: Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000 Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to home country in the amount of $50,000 A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness Includes coverage for perils inherent to the activities of the program in which the insured participates. In our case, the program is Research in information systems (office work with a computer). The insurance corporation must have an A.M. Best rating of A- or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd (ISI) rating of A- or above, a Standard Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of A- or above, a Weiss Research Inc. rating of B+ or above. Our program dates are 4/21/2016-8/15/2017. I understood that you offer the policy for one year at a time and it is easily renewable. I also understood, that for example Atlas America offers plans that are refundable. Our family has five members, me (born 1977, J2 spouse), my husband (born 1966 J1 applicant), and three children (born 2004, 2007, 2015, J2 children). Any of us does not have permanent illnesses/medical problems. Is it possible to customize deductibles if we take a family plan? My husband for example is fully covered by an insurance taken from our home country (Finland), but the insurance company did not want to fill the compliance form. So he needs the insurance mainly because of the compliance form paperwork requirement. For him the deductible could be $500. Other family members would prefer lower deductible ($100). We would like to get an offer for the insurance for one year. We would like to pay it full (no monthly payments). If you need US credit score ratings, those are also available and are very good (I do not know if it lowers the payment). I will also attach the J1 Scholar Alternate Health Insurance Compliance form as an attacment. The University needs this paper filled by the insurance company. Would it be ok to get this filled if we select an insurance from you?

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. Atlas America plan meets all your school requirements. But that plan you can have max. for 364 days. You can repurchase the same plan after 364 days. If you want to renew the same plan without purchasing new policy. You can have Patriot Exchange plan. This plan you can renew as long as you are on J1 visa. If you want different deductible for your husband you need to do separate application. You can't do one application with different deductible option. You can't take more than $500 deductible in order to meet J1/J2 visa requirements. Once you purchase insurance you can send us compliance form with your information then only compliance dept. will sign. We can't sign blank form. You can compare Patriot Exchange and Atlas America plan in our J visa insurance section. Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. You can get max. 364 days at one time. There is no difference in the premium. Whether you pay 364 days at one time or monthly. Only difference is that there will be $5 renewal fees whenever you renew the policy. We don't need to check your credit history. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us.

Q:I am a visiting scholar in University of South Florida (J-1 visa). I am trying to purchase an insurance plan on insubuy but I am not sure if the plan meets the requirement for the school. Could you please help me check it? The plan must have medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness, repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000, expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to home country in the amount of $50,000, & a deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. By the way, I am wondering if it is possible to start the insurance from 03/15/2016 since the school requires to start insurance from the date of entrance. Thanks for your help.

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. WE can start policy today but NOT from 03/15. You can purchase Atlas America plan which meets all your school requirements and you can start coverage from 03/16. Please review this and if you have any further questions feel free to contact us. You can find more plans for J1 visa in our J visa insurance section.
