Q:I have just learned that All international students holding an F, J, Q or M visa are exempt from the individual mandate for their first 5 calendar years in the US. My daughter would qualify here. Can you, therefore, recommend a plan fitting all of the below criteria except the ACA?

A:
International students are exempt from any tax penalties that are assessed for not having a compliant plan. If the universities requirements state that the plan must be ACA compliant she is still required to adhere to this requirement or the University may deny her waiver for her insurance. If a student is not in compliance with the Universities standards her status could be adversely affected. Please verify with her University directly before attempting to purchase a plan that is not to their standards.
