Q:My father is in USA already. He has cad diagnosed a week back with no other prior medical condition before this diagnosis . He is on medical treatment for now . He is here until December here . Is there any plan for him to cover any sudden unexpected recurrence of this and also acute exacerbation of the condition for him which can cover these in case it happens again .

A:
Unfortunately there is no insurance which will cover the benefits you are looking for. Acute onset or sudden and unexpected recurrence of pre-ex will be covered only if occurs after the effective date of the policy. There is no policy to cover the people who are already sick. It is the best to purchase the policy before the person arrives in the US. At this time, it is too late for that purpose. Of course you can still purchase the insurance but it will cover any new medical condition injuries or accidents that occur after the effective date of the policy.

Q:I have two concerns regarding the Safe Travels USA Comprehensive plan which I am looking at primarily for the high coverage limit $25000 for acute onset of preexisting conditions: 1. Travel dates for the insured will be Oct 18 2016 inbound to USA- Jan 29 2017 arrival back home in India. But is there a 90 day limit on coverage through Safe Travels USA Comprehensive plan? 2. The Safe Travel USA brochure defines Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition means a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-Existing Condition which 1) occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent and immediate medical care and 2) is a minimum of 48 hours after the Effective Date of the policy By that rationale does it mean that any acute onset of any symptoms that happens during the journey from India to the USA may be ineligible for coverage since they are occurring during the first 48 hours from the date of departure (i.e. effective date of policy)?

A:
No, there is not a 90 day limit on coverage. You can purchase the plan for a minimum of 5 days up to the full duration of their stay. Yes if there is an acute onset during the first 48 hours of the policy it would not be covered. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.

Q:J1/J2 medical insurance I am a postdoc in UT Health Science center at San Antonio with J1. My wife is J2. The Health Science Center's employee medical insurance plan does not meet the U.S. Department of State?s requirements for repatriation of remains and medical evacuation coverage. Consequently, J-1 employees participating in the employee medical insurance plan must purchase additional repatriation and medical evacuation coverage for the duration of their exchange visitor program in the U.S. I want to know how to only purchase additional repatriation and medical evacuation coverage.Thanks.
