Q:J2 Health insurance for wife and my daughter I am a professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain. I am going to do a research stay as visiting scholar at UCLA. My government provides me with a health insurance that fulfills the requirements of UCLA for visiting scholars. Unfortunately my wife and my daughter are not covered by this insurance, so I need a health insurance for them. They both have a J2 visa. My wife is 39 years old and my daughter is 3 years old. I would like to know if you can offer me a health insurance for them and if yes what would be the cost and the conditions. The period of my research stay is from 12th July to 20th December and UCLA requirements for visiting scholar´s dependents are: •$100,000 USD per accident & illness in medical coverage •Deductible cannot exceed $500 per accident or illness •Coinsurance cannot exceed 25% •Medical evacuation coverage must be at least $50,000 USD •Repatriation coverage must be at least $25,000 USD •Pre-existing conditions must be a covered benefit. The waiting period for benefit coverage cannot exceed 12 months •Carrier must be at least A- rated or backed by the full faith and credit of the Exchange Visitor's government. Thanks and Regards,

Q:J1/J2 inquiry about insurance I am a postdoctoral fellow of University of Connecticut (we are already in US now). As I take the J1 visa and the university asked me to buy an additional insurance repatriation which is not in the coverage of health benefits form UConn. So, I want to ask you about the possibility of buying that in your company. I just want to select the most economic one. How can I buy them? I mean how much should I pay for it and how to pay (pay the whole year at one time or it will be deductible each month ). Besides, my wife has J2 (J1 dependent) visa and stay with me. So it means that we have to buy both of this additional insurance. Can you please provide me some information about my questions at your earliest convenience? Thanks a lot!

A:

Q:J1/J2 Visa Medical Insurance Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you very much for your time on this message! I am currently working as a postdoc at Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics, Heidelberg, Germany. I got a one-year postdoc position in Texas A & M University, USA which will be started in the beginning of October 2016, and now I am on the stage of J1 visa application. I am now searching for the qualified travel insurance for the period from 1 October 2016 to 31 Jan 2017 which can meet the J1 visa requirements. And I found that in your official website there is an option for Fixed Coverage Plans: Inbound USA which costs $173.43 for this time period. May I ask if am qualified to buy this insurance for the J1 visa application? If yes, could it be possible to buy it online and send me the electronic version of the insurance contract such that I can have it for visa application? Another issue for me is that my fiancee would like to apply for a J2 dependent visa together with me, she is now doing her PhD study at Heidelberg University, and will come to me at a latter date after her defense which will be held around the end of this year. Since she will probably come to me at the beginning of 2017, does she have to buy the insurance starting from October 2016 in order to apply for the J1 independent visa, or insurance starting from the day she will enter US is sufficient? Thank you very much in advance!

Meantime, you can visit our J1/J2 visa insurance section, /j1-visa-health-insurance/ Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. You don't need to purchase J2 visa insurance in October if she is planning to come in 2017. Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you very much for your so kind reply! Here is the J1 Health Insurance requirement from Texas A & M University: http://ifss.tamu.edu/Main/Visitors/J-1-Health-Insurance-Requirement and also attached please find the pdf file for the requirements. It appears to me that I only need to buy the first 3-4 month' insurance in order to apply for the visa, after that I and my fiancee can be enrolled in TAMU insurance system. If I understand correctly, may I ask if it is sufficient to buy the insurance that meet J1/J2 visa requirements? Also, since we would like to apply for the J1/J2 visa together but my fiancee will enter US in the beginning of 2017, would it be OK for her to buy J2 insurance starting from the date she enters US? Thank you very much in advance! Inbound USA plan does not meet your school requirements. You can purchase either Atlas America or Patriot Exchange plan which meets your school requirements. Atlas America brochure, instant purchase link, /atlasamerica-insurance/ Patriot Exchange brochure, instant purchase link, /patriot-exchange-program-insurance/ You can compare these plans at, /j1-visa-health-insurance/ You can do separate application for your wife. Yes. She can purchase insurance for her with the same insurance effective date as yours. But for her you can change the eff. date whenever she is planning to come to USA after her visa approval. But whatever changes you want to do you have to do before the effective Date. In that case I would suggest to purchase Atlas America plan. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you very much for your kind help and recommendations! I am sorry that I don't understand why Inbound USA plan does not meet TAMU requirements. If I am correct, it appears to me that Texas A&M University only requires the same conditions as J2 visa. Could it be possible to ask you where I misunderstood? For the link that you sent to me, I found the "ATLAS ESSENTIAL AMERICA" plan which is $220.17 for four months starting from 01 October 2016 to 31 Jan 2017? Would it be sufficient for us to purchase this plan? Thank you very much in advance! Inbound USA is a fixed coverage plan. There is no co-insurance. After the deductible insurance will pay fixed amount like dr. visit $85/ visit, surgery $5500 , hospitalization $1950 more schedule of benefits you will find in the brochure at, /safe-travels-elite/medical-insurance/ While school is asking your co-insurance should not be more than 25%. So either you take Atlas America or Atlas Essential. Under atlas Essential you will pay 25% to policy max. that is $100,000. So if something major happens your out of pocket will be lot more compare to Atlas America plan. But you can purchase whichever plan works best for you. Please read more difference at, /j1-visa-health-insurance/ Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your kind reply! We are planning to buy the Atlas Essential America (Deductible 500 per person, and pays 75% to policy max) for four months from 1 October 2016 to 31 Jan 2017, the price is $198.03. And also for my wife, she would like to buy independently Atlas Essential America (Deductible 500 per person, and pays 75% to policy max) for one month from 1 March 2016 to 31 March 2017, since she will come to US in March 2017. Before purchase, may I ask some questions listed as follows? 1. Could it be possible to ask if this type of insurance meets the J1/J2 visa and also school requirements? 2. Before the effective date, could it be possible to change the time period for the insurance? For example, my wife may have to change the time period to four months from 1 October 2016 to 31 Jan 2017, if it is necessary for her to apply for the J2 visa together with me. 3. If yes, how much should we pay to change the time period, in addition to the extra insurance fees? 4. How long does it take to get the insurance certificate after our purchase? Could it be possible to get the electronic documents by email? Thank you very much in advance! Answer for your questions below: 1. Yes. 2. Yes. You can make any changes before the eff. date of the policy. Please allow us 2-3 business days to complete your request. 3. There is no fees before the insurance eff. date. You will pay premium only for the additional days you want. 4. As soon as you purchase insurance you will receive insurance confirmation via e-mail by default which will have a link to print all the documents. If you select online fulfillment NO then you will receive plastic card by regular mail also. Atlas Essential brochure, instant purchase link, /atlas-essential-america-insurance/ Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

However, when I checked that confirmation letter, I found that this insurance seem didn't include repatriation fee while die in american as J-1 visa required.
