A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. As your wife is coming on H4 visa and you enter effective date is 04/11. That’s why you got only one plan. Thanks for quick response , yes I made the change and I got few more , just wanted to know if my understanding that she qualifies for this insurance . Q:Fiance visa Insurance My fiancé is submitting an application to get me a k1 fiancé visa. And I have been looking on your site for medical insurance to cover me for the first 90 days. Can the insurance be purchased before hand. I'm not sure when my visa will come through. But I was thinking about buying insurance that would start as soon as I leave the U.K. Unfortunately I don't as yet have a date. But I'm looking at making sure all is in place rather than doing it last minute Awaiting your earliest reply

A:

The policy will start on your requested date of coverage and can cover yourself during your travel, you would just need to make sure that your policy is in effect in accordance with U.S. eastern standard time. Q:Green card holder insurance questions I am a green card holder, and have a job here in America, but I need to purchase insurance. What options do I have? I am a resident of Idaho, but will be in Alaska for 5 months this year.

A:
As a green card holder, you are eligible for domestic insurance. You would need to look into plans available through the Health Exchange (Healthcare.gov). However, Open enrollment has passed and unless you qualify for a special election period, you would not be able to obtain coverage until next year or coverage beginning Jan. 1 ,2017. If you are not able to obtain coverage through the Healthcare Exchange, you could purchase a Short term domestic plan. I am attaching a link with the plans available in Idaho. Please be advised however, that these short term domestic plans do not cover pre-existing conditions or preventative care, therefore they are not ACA compliant. If you do not carry compliant insurance, you will have to pay a penalty assessed when filing your 2016 taxes. /short-term-health-insurance/ Please let us know if you have any additional questions. So you are telling me that open enrollment has past, so I am unable to get insurance through the Health Exchange, and the short term domestic plans are not compliant, therefore I will be charged when doing taxes next year. How does that make sense? That basically gives me no options? Please explain further and tell me what viable options I have to not be charged for taxes. You will first want to go through the healthcare.gov website to see if you qualify for the special enrollment. Usually, when you are employed the employer offers insurance. If they do not, then you are expected to purchase insurance and yes, if you do not there could be tax penalties. We are not tax professionals so do not know the details of when this penalty is imposed or if there are exceptions to this. We just want to offer you the options available to you. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office

Q:health insurance for my mother age 75 - green card holder I have sponsored my mother to USA . I need your help in looking for a right health insurance plan for my mother just arrived in USA from Pakistan . My mother plans to shuttle between USA / Pakistan . Should be PPACA compliant insurance under tax form 1095 so that I do not incur penalties . Here is her Bio : DOB: 4 SEP 1940 Status : Green Card . Coverage :until 31 december 2016. PPACA compliant insurance : tax form 1095

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. The insurance plans we offer for new immigrants will not be PPACA compliant. If she has just arrived you can check with local domestic insurance companies to see if they will provide a PPACA plan for someone aged 75. Most domestic plans do not offer coverage for someone of that age but you can contact either the healthcare.gov or contact domestic companies individually to confirm. If you are unable to locate a domestic plan we will be able to offer a short term plan that she can have to cover her for any new illness or injury until she is eligible to purchase Medicare after 5 years of having her green card. If you have additional questions or need assistance with choosing a plan please feel free to contact our office.
