Q:I am an international student at George Washington University (DC state). My college has some conditions to get a new insurance. Here is the list of all requirements. Please let me know if you cover all of these conditions and also please let know the cheapest possible quote for a year. I really appreciate your time! Must be provided by a company licensed to do business in the United States, with a U.S. claims payment office and a U.S. telephone number. Must be currently active and you must promise to maintain it during the entire period you are registered for the current academic school term. Must provide an annual minimum of $100,000 in coverage for each accident or illness you may suffer each policy year. Must include coverage for prescriptions (medications prescribed by a physician). Must cover pre-existing conditions (illnesses or medical conditions that began before the effective date of the insurance coverage) with no waiting period (or the plan must have been in effect long enough that any waiting period has already passed). Must cover inpatient and outpatient medical and mental health care in the Washington, DC area, including alcohol, drug abuse and detoxification treatment. Emergency-only coverage does not satisfy this requirement. Must cover expenses related to self-inflicted injuries and suicide. Must have a maximum deductible of $500 for international students or $1,500 for domestic students. Must provide at least $50,000 for medical evacuation, which is transportation to your home country so that you can receive medical care there. Q:I am student at university of Oregon, Eugene. I recently moved to US under a j-1 Visa along with my husband and son(j-2 visa). I called your helpline yesterday for information on insurance options for my husband and son. The operator shared a plan by Atlas Exchange that I decided on buying and asked him to share the particulars in email. But I still haven't received the details. I tried to look up for the plan on internet but I can't find it. My son is 2 yrs old and my husband is 32 yrs. Both are here on a J-2 visa. We need an insurance policy for the next entire year starting 09/23/2017. I myself am enrolled in university insurance so I don't need an insurance for myself. The plan operator shared yesterday costs around 800-900 USD per year. It will be very helpful if you could help me find that plan so that I can buy it.

Q:Insurance required for travelling to US - with pre existing disease .. please advice

A:
We provide insurance from many companies before we suggest any plan would like to know insured person age, travel date, which state do you need coverage and what kind of pre-existing are you planning to cover? Once we get the information above will send you insurance plan accordingly. There is no short term plan for an international visitor which covers routine maintenance for the pre-existing conditions. However, we have some plan that provides coverage for an Acute Onset of Pre-existing Conditions. Meantime, please visit our website and enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further information.

Q:Looking for coverage for an american living abroad over 10 years last state of residence is California. Planning to visit USA in October looking for either travel/ or long term insurance with pre existing condition. The traveler is a stroke survivor with hypertension, age 38 travel dates from Oct 17 to 27 or maybe just one week from Hong Kong to NYC. We are mainly worried about medical bills, in case, you know, knock on wood, shall anything happens.

A:
The insurance plans available for a short visit are going to cover new accidents and new illness that occur after the effective date of the policy. At most, there is a plan that will cover in the event of an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition. This will not include general routine doctor's visits or immunizations, nor any medications related. Unfortunately, there is not going to be a plan that will cover the pre-existing conditions unless it is a domestic insurance plan. You can look into domestic insurance after his arrival but they would not be valid during the needed duration of his visit of 10/17-10/27. Domestic insurance plans typically start the first of the following month after arrival or the month after.
