Q:I would like to know the best Visitor Insurance options for my parents who will be visiting us in near future for a duration of 45 days. They have pre-existing conditions and are of ages 68 and 57. I would also like to have more details on the after policy purchase support from your agency/organization in case of emergency and hospitalization. I am looking forward for your response ASAP.

A:
There will be several plans available to your parents during their visit in the United States. There are comprehensive plans called Atlas America and Patriot America Plus that are options that are available to your parents. Plans are designed to cover the new accidents and new illness that occur after the effective date of the policy. Plans do not cover pre-existing conditions or maintenance visits as it relates to pre-existing conditions, preventative care or medications as it relates to pre-existing conditions. Some plan will offer coverage for an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition. Please see the link for a detailed description of and acute onset of a pre-existing condition. The determination of an acute onset of a pre-existing condition will be determined at the time of the claim according to the certificate wording and the attending physician notes. You can find additional plan options on our website. If you need any additional information please feel free to contact our office.

The Atlas America plan will provide coverage for loss of checked luggage up to $500 that will be secondary to any other benefits you gets from airline because this is your medical insurance but it covers only little portion on travel. Q:My dad is currently undergoing radiation/cancer treatment in India. I would like to bring him to US so that we can stay closer and continue the treatment. Is there an insurance policy that would cover part of these costs? Can you connect me to an insurance company representative so that i can send them existing medical reports and get an understanding of costs of the treatment?

A:
Unfortunately, there are no plans available which will provide coverage for your fathers current treatment. Short term health insurance plans for visitors are designed to cover new illnesses, injuries, or accidents which occur after the effective date of the policy. They will not cover pre-existing conditions, routine doctors' visits, or medications which are in relation to a pre-existing condition. Since the treatment and diagnosis occurred prior to the policy being enforce, it would be declined as a pre-existing condition. Many plans also have specific exclusions for cancer treatment. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
