Q:Hi, I am coming to USA in J1 visa for a year (12-Jan-2018 to 10-Jan-2019). Traveling alone from India/Singapore. I have been in Singapore from past one year, but my nationality is India. My DOB: 8-June-1983 I am looking for an insurance which meets the J1 requirement. The university I am joining (Univ of Illinois, Urbana Champaign) recommends Gallagher's gold/silver/bronze plans, but we can buy from any company as long as it meets the J1 visa insurance requirement. Is patriot exchange enough for meeting the insurance requirement for J1 visa?

A:
All of the plans in the J1/J2 Visa Health Insurance section of our website meet the standard J1 requirements. As long as your sponsor doesn't have additional requirements that need to be met then the Patriot Exchange plan will work. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I am a PhD Student in a Chilean University (38 years old). I will be enrolled as a Visiting Student Researcher at Stanford University during April 1st 2018 to February 1st 2019. I am looking for a health insurance system, alternative to the Stanford Cardinal Care. Do you offer some product that could replace the Stanford program? I am traveling with my spouse (35 years old) and my child (4 years old). Stanford University requirements are: - An annual deductible less than $1,000 USD. - Lifetime aggregate maximum benefit of at least $2,000,000 USD or a maximum per condition/per lifetime benefit of $500,000 USD. - Coverage for inpatient and outpatient medical care in the San Francisco Bay Area and the U.S. - Coverage for inpatient and outpatient mental health care in the San Francisco Bay Area and the U.S. - Prescription drug coverage. - Coverage for non-emergency as well as emergency care. - Coverage for pre-existing conditions or you have met applicable waiting periods. Although not a requirement of Stanford University, the U.S. Department of State requires that J1 visa holders have a policy with minimum coverage of $25,000 USD for repatriation of remains and $50,000 USD for medical evacuation.

A:
Unfortunately, the plans available for purchase all have a pre-existing condition waiting period so there is no plan that will meet the requirements as listed. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q: I am an international student here in the US and currently on OPT. My OPT will end on February 16, 2018. I am looking at ExchangeGuard insurance option in your website. My question is 1. Will this cover F1 student in OPT? 2. After my OPT, probably I will change my status to F2 dependent, what will happen to my insurance if that happen? 3. If I apply to permanent resident, will it cover during my application on pending (because it will take at least 1 year to approve)? 4. Can I add my US born child under my policy?

A:
ExchangeGuard can cover an F2 visa holder. However, if you apply for permanent residency, it will no longer cover you, beginning with the date you file for adjustment of status. If you do file for permanent residency, you can contact our office and we can go over other plan options for that status here in the U.S. There is not going to be a plan that will cover a U.S. citizen living here. Your child would be eligible for domestic insurance here in the United States as a U.S. citizen residing here. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
