Q:Hi, I am an international student in the US. I would like to purchase health insurance, I am training in MMA (at a local gym) so I want to know if there is any health insurance that covers that. I am busy most of the day so it's better if we contact through email, thank you.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. Are you training in MMA to compete? If so, then plans generally will exclude coverage for that type of activity. How long have you been in the US, what insurance plan do you currently have, and does your university have any requirements that need to be met? You can also call our office for additional assistance.

Q:I would like to buy insurance for my mom who is visiting the U.S. shortly. I'm interested in the Atlas America Insurance plan. It has the geographic restriction that the applicant cannot be in New York at the time of purchasing the plan. Is it applicable to the insured (my mom) or for whom paying the plan (myself) Also is the stating date and ending date local time of travel or what time?

A:
The geographic restrictions will be for your mother. She cannot be physically located in the state of New York at the time of application. Policies will start and end in accordance with U.S. Eastern Time not the home country time.

Q:I am looking to purchase health insurance for my grandmother, who is visiting me in March. She is 87. She has no major health issues other than osteoarthritis and well-controlled diabetes. I looked into the fixed coverage options, and only Safe Travels offers coverage that is somewhat reasonable. I am now looking at comprehensive coverage options, which I think is the better choice given her age. Could you help me narrow down some options? She is visiting me from March 28 2018 to September 25 2018. She is 87, in fair health other than arthritis and diabetes, no heart problems. I am a student, so I am looking for cost-effective coverage.

A:
Based on the information provided, we would recommend reviewing the Safe Travels USA Comprehensive Plan. This plan will provide the highest policy maximum limit for her age group. This plan also provide coverage for an acute onset of a pre-existing condition up to $25,000 for anyone under the age of 89. This limit is reduced to $15,000 if the acute onset is related to a cardiac disease or condition. Please use the link below to view this plan more in detail, and purchase. If you have any additional questions please let us know. Safe Travels US Comprehensive

Q:I'm considering purchasing health insurance for a visiting relative. I see that the Safe Travels fixed coverage plan is PPO. Are the rates negotiated through PPO? Or is it just that the network is PPO but no negotiated rates?

A:
As long as you visit in-network provider there are network negotiated rates. Please be advised, with fixed coverage plans these plans are designed to pay a fixed amount for each procedure, then you are responsible to pay the remaining difference. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
