Question:

With all the flight cancellations, is there a travel insurance policy that will cover me if my flight is cancelled by the airline? My two grandsons and I are flying to Anchorage, Alaska to go on a cruise. We are flying home from Vancouver. If the flight to Anchorage is cancelled we will miss the ship and lose out on our entire cruise, plus the price we paid for the flight home from Vancouver. I know that the airline must refund me my fare if they cancel my flight but they have no responsibility for all the other money I will lose.

Answer:

Thank you for contacting Insubuy. In order for the airline cancellation to be covered under the trip cancellation insurance, the cancellation reason must be listed in the policy. Unfortunately, if the airline cancels your flight and they reason is due to such things as they are short staffed, or they do not provide a reason then this is not covered in the base cancellation reasons.

You may purchase cancel for any reason travel insurance to insure your trip cost in the event there is a cancellation due to a reason not listed in the policy. In order to be eligible for this coverage, you generally have to purchase within 10 to 21 days of the initial trip deposit date. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
