LDS Business College

International Student Medical Insurance

General Information

The LDS Business College (LDSBC), located in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a private, two-year college established in 1886. The school is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It opened as the Salt Lake Academy, offering high school, teacher-training, business, and college courses. It became the Latter-day Saints’ University in 1889, but it was pre-empted as the “cornerstone” university of the Mormon Church with the establishment of Brigham Young University. In 1927, the school became LDS College and then LDS Business College in 1931. It moved to its current location in 2006. Today, LDSBC enrolls more than 2,000 students and counting each year. The school colors are forest green and gold, and its mascot is the lion.

Academic Offerings

LDSBC offers Associate of Science degrees, Associate of Applied Science degrees, and a variety of certificate programs. The school’s purpose is to train students in business and industry knowledge in keeping with the teachings of the LDS church. It offers courses in business, health professions, information technology, software development, interior design, paralegal studies, social media marketing, and applied technology.

Almost 45% of the LDSBC students are returned missionaries, and international students make up a solid 25% of the student body.

All students who are enrolled at least 9 credit hours per semester are required to have adequate medical coverage. Enrollment in the Student Health Plan satisfies this requirement, as does enrollment in a group medical plan provided by the student’s employer or spouse’s or parent’s employer.

For another medical insurance plan to meet the student health plan requirements, it must meet the following criteria: It must be an ACA-compliant plan offered by a U.S.-based insurance company; it must cover the student while on campus; it must provide at least 80% coverage for all major medical expenses, including physician, hospital and ancillary service; it must have an annual deductible of no more than $1,000; and it must take effect no later than the first day of classes and cover the duration of the term.

Students can request to waive the student health plan by showing or emailing a copy of their personal insurance card to the Cashier’s Office any time before the tuition deadline.

Please contact our office if you would like more information. This information may be subject to change based on a health insurance waiver or compliance form.
