The institute started operating in 1941. It moved into its own campus in Jeffersonville in 1945, and took the name of Indiana University Jeffersonville Extension Center. Starting in 1968, it came to be known as Indiana University Southeast.

Indiana University Southeast International Student Insurance Requirements

International Students

Indiana University Southeast mandates that all International and Intensive English Program Students holding either an F or J visa are to have health insurance for themselves as well as their dependents. The program the student will be taking may determine the health insurance that is required as well as available waiver options.

IUS cites that each International or Intensive English student will be automatically enrolled in their health insurance plan, providing no details on how to request for an exemption of coverage. Dependents are able to be added at an additional cost.

IUS also declares that students, including international students, will be automatically enrolled in the Professional Student Health Insurance Plan for those who are participates of either the IU School of Medicine (IUSM), IU School of Dentistry (IUSD), IU School of Health and Human Sciences (SHHS), and IU School of Optometry (IUSO). Students will be able to waive for a plan that is comparable by the stated deadline. Dependents are able to be added at an additional cost.

It is recommended to contact the Student Health Coordinator or Human Resource to verify the health insurance requirements prior to purchase, as detailed information may only be provided to the attendee.

Exchange Visitors

Indiana University –Southeast requires that all Visiting Scholars have health insurance for themselves as well as their dependents. It’s mentioned that Visiting Scholars are required to contact the sponsoring department for enrollment and payment information. Dependents are able to be added at an additional cost. There are no other details about exemptions or options to waive this plan.

IU-Bloomington, which is the school system’s main university campus, cites details pertaining to the health insurance waive option for those individuals who are either employed or just short–term Visiting Scholars. It’s stated that they can waive for health insurance that meets the minimum requirements set forth by the US department of State as well as the additional requirement which would include coverage for maternity/pregnancy care.
