My sister who is an American citizen but who has lived in Rome for 30 years (with legal residence--she was married to an Italian) plans on visiting in May and staying one month. This is her first visit during Covid. I have a few questions: 1) will she be able to get tested at O'Hare once she lands; 2) she does not have American insurance and therefore, can she pay for the test with a credit card--how much is it; and 3) what would be the best short term coverage for her while she stays for one month. In the past, she would visit without insurance coverage but now, with Covid, in the event that she contracted the virus, we want her to be fully covered.

The plan is designed, like all visitor insurance plans, to cover the new illnesses and injuries that manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy. Although COVID-19 would be treated the same as any other eligible expense in this plan should it manifest during the coverage period, with regards to testing, the plan will allow coverage only if it is of medical necessity. This would mean it would have to be due to signs or symptoms and under a physician recommendation. Elective testing for travel purposes would be excluded from the coverage.
