New Immigrant Insurance

Question:

What kind of insurance do I need while my immigration process is pending? I need to have an insurance card when taking medical exam which is required to adjust my status. Please advise via email provided above. I am aware of the fact that insurance wont pay for the exam. As i need to have the insurance then i was wondering which insurance plans if good enough to qualify for the exam so they accept my ID. And how much is costs.

Answer:

Because you have filed for adjustment of status, the plans in our new immigrant section like the International Major Medical plan are the types of plans available to you.

Once you receive your green card and/or your social security card making you eligible for domestic insurance, you would need to enroll under that coverage. Once you become eligible for domestic insurance, it will make you not eligible for these plans and they will no longer cover you. Also keep in mind that the plans in the New Immigrant section cover for new illnesses and new injuries that occur or manifest after the effective date. There are no plans on the market for visitors that cover  pre-existing conditions.

We are not aware of having to have insurance to qualify for an exam.  Whatever the provider charges for the exam is what you would pay to the provider directly. We are not able to advise on what a provider will charge, so you would have to contact them directly about cost.
