If we had to cancel travel due to COVID-19 for any reason (one of us getting the virus, or travel bans being imposed due to the epidemic) do any travel insurance plans cover the cancellation and refunding of the trip?
Trip cancellation insurance does not coverage cancellation for fear of COVID. If once was to contract the virus and it is determined by a medical professional (documentation is required) that they are not fit to travel they could cancellation under the plan as this would be considered a cancellation for sickness.
Some Trip cancellation insurance plans will offer an optional benefit for Cancel for any Reason. Travel LX, Safe Travels FIrst Class and Safe Travel Voyager would allow one to cancel their trip and receive 75% of the non-refundable trip cost. This benefit would have to be purchase with 10 or 20 days of the initial trip deposit to be eligible to purchase. One would be allowed to cancel for any reason and that can include cancellation for COVID related reasons.
