Reference to Policy number - 4030/W-369655/00/000 - I have taken an overseas travel policy in Chennai for a travel to US for 6 months. Based on the policys refund procedure, I am eligible for a refund of the unused portion (3+ months) because of my returning back to India.
I am a senior citizen, and I had to talk more than 6 times, and Email more than 8 times with the customer service of ICICI Lombard, in vain, and till date I have not received the refund, even after escalating the details to the grievance people as advertised in their website (Three names are mentioned), however, they do not even have professional ethics to respond to customer query.
I am old enough to raise this battle legally, and with such a pathetic customer service, I would strongly not recommened anyone to take any of ICICI Lombards policies. In case of any requirements as to details of this case, I would be happy to provide.
I have paid around Rs.19000 in terms of premium amount, on which, almost half of the amount is eligible for refund for non-usage, as per the policy terms. There are no claims or whatsoever against the policy, however, I am getting same responses on different dates from a customer service professional - Pankaj Chettri, that I have claimed an amount of Rs.300USD! (same as in his mail) If this is the case, ICICI should be paying me this money back! However, this cannot happen, as there was no such claim. I am getting a sense that ICICI enters in fradulent transactions similar to what I have quoted above, and probably, some bigger fish is yet unrevealed.
If you want to waste your money, energy and time, get disrepected and cheated, you have to knock at ICICI Lombard for a policy.

Hello P Pais,
You have misunderstood what the insurance policy that you have purchased covers.
You have just mentioned Plan A. I believe that you are referring to Plan A in Inbound USA. Please refer to the brochure at http://www.insubuy.com/sevencorners/inboundusa/visitorsinsurance.jsp
It clearly states that you will get $1,400/day for hospital room and board including miscellaneous. When you are admitted into the hospital, expenses like bed, supplies(cotton, bandages etc.), tests like x-ray, ct scan, MRI and similar stuff all are considered as part of miscellaneous expenses. That is very standard across insurance companies. That is how it is even in the domestic insurance that people here in the US get through insurance in companies like Aetna, Blue Cross etc.
Therefore, if you had chosen $100 deductible, they have paid $1,300. That is exactly what they should have paid.
Please look at the differences between fixed vs comprehensive plans at http://www.insubuy.com/visitors-insurance/
Therefore, we again recommend everyone to consider comprehensive plans only.

My mother was visiting from India and was here for 6 months. We had purchased Plan A insurance from seven corners after hearing about it from this website.
2 weeks before her departure to India, she experienced a Chest pain and we took her to the ER. They took her X-ray, ECG, CT scan etc and did not find any problem. To monitor her they admitted her to the hospital for one day and she underwent some more tests like stress test, blood tests etc. She was discharged after 24 hrs and her hospital bill(including all the tests) was about $8500.00.
The claim was filed with seven corners and after 3 months they have paid only $1300.00. They are refusing to pay for the tests as they say under Plan A for an inpatient, "Hospital Room & Board including miscellaneous" coverage is up to $1400/day. As per the insurance company the tests performed will come under the miscellaneous charges. Even though she was admitted through the ER, they will not cover any of her ER charges either.
The plan does not explicitly state what "miscellaneous" covers and they are using this as an excuse to not pay the bill.
Does anyone have similar experience with them and can you help me?

I took a Bajaj Allianz Travel Insurance Policy, paying a hefty sum as premium to ensure that i am covered well while i was traveling in the US & Canada.
Unfortunately i took ill and suffered a
mild heart attack and was admitted to an American Hospital. All the while i was admitted, i was assured that the company would do their best to settle my bills as soon as it was sent out to them.
I am a sugar patient, and my doctor clearly told me that my heart condition wasnt because of my pre existing condition. When i presented my papers to the Insurance provider (the venerable Bajaj Allianz), to my utmost horror, the company rejected my claim on the basis that ANY heart conditions had been ruled out (whether with or without sugar induced) when the policy was issued, since i was a sugar patient. They went on to rattle off statistics to ensure that we were suitably impressed, and of course we were not!!!!
The agency claims, that they like transparency and put everything in black and white! But if that was the case, why werent the conditions listed out in bullet form, rather than in convoluted english, separated by multiple punctuation marks, semi colons, commas et al.
Bottom line: the minute they saw they had to pay a whopping bill of 40000 US dollars, which translates to roughly 16 lakhs of rupees, they decided to comb through the policy to find loopholes which could be manipulated.
And if you come to think of it, they didnt even conduct any medical exams when they granted the policy, so if i had conveniently forgotten to mention that I had Diabetes, may be they would have paid after all. Such is the price of Honesty!!
I was told, albeit very rudely that i can approach the legal forum, for justice.
To add salt to the wounds, the agency boldly challenged me saying that if you want to fight me, on the point that this wasnt caused by diabetes, I (that is the agency) will prove to you that this was caused by diabetes and then you will end up with nothing! So much for their consideration when they were seeking business.
I think I will, considering that the company is only trying to maintain its rejection rate and taking undue advantage of simple people, by using convoluted english, which leads people to interpret the policy clauses in more than one way.
To prove my point, i have shown the clause to family, friends, even people not known to me, and a couple of lawyers. without being biased, they state that the clause means what it states, and not what the insurance company is trying to read it out to be.
I am disgusted and appalled at their service levels, their lack of responsibility and their immediate shift from all pleasing, (when they wanted your business) to even threatening, albeit accusing me of changing my mind, since I was now forced to pay the entire money.
Will i give them a satisfaction rating, yes but mine will be - 24 %, not because they have only tried to hoodwink me, of my lifeâs savings, because i am retired now, but also becuase they have treated me with disrespect and tried to shoo me away / get rid of me like i was an annoying fly in the milk.

Hi all!
I am looking to buy insurance for my in-laws who are arriving in California the first week of December. Mother-in-law is 56 and father-in-law is 61 years old. They both are relatively healthy for their age but do have high-BP (mother-in-law) and high cholestrol (father-in-law).
What would be a good insurance for their age group and health condition?
Thanks,
SK

Arjun,
My parents and in-laws keep coming alternatively to visit us. Therefore, I have purchased both of the plans you mentioned, earlier Liaison International and then Protection America recently. I had ended up using both of the plans.
While both are excellent plans from two companies, there are few differences that I have noticed.
* Liaison International participates in Hygeia PPO network. Even though many doctors come show up in the network, when I called them, they said that they have never heard of Hygeia. I never had that kind of problem with First Health PPO in Protection America.
* Liaison International only has 80/20 coinsurance option but Protection America has either 80/20 or 90/10 coinsurance choices. I took 90/10.
* There are some other minor differences that I don't quite remember, something to do with ambulance, dental etc. You can compare the plans side by side on this web site to find those diffrences.
