Mountaineering insurance

Hello, I am currently a resident of India. From 31 August to 30 May 2013, I will be doing a two year mountain guide course run by The Mountain Training School. The course is based in Chile with a few months in the USA. During my stay in Chile, I will be on a temporary residence visa. Health and Evacuation insurance is mandatory for the course. A recommendation was made that I look into your Atlas International Insurance plan. The course includes skiing, rock climbing and mountaineering. In your brochure, in the Exclusions sections there was something about mountaineering that I didn't fully understand. Does this plan cover the situation as mentioned above?

just spoke with our Claims Supervisor, and below is an explanation on mountaineering. If you purchase a stand-alone Atlas plan, mountaineering above elevations of 4,500 meters is excluded. However, if you purchase the sports rider in addition to the traditional Atlas plan, you will be covered when mountaineering above 4,500 meters. The sports rider nullifies the exclusion of sports related injuries in it’s entirety (outside of professional sports). So make sure when you purchase the Atlas plan that you include the Sports rider!
