Can you please advise if the deductible amount quoted on IMG policies (specifically Patriot GoTravel America) is per sickness/accident or per policy period?

i.e. if a deductible is $250 and the policy is 90/10 and I have the following scenario:
Doctor visit 1: $500 invoice
Doctor visit 2: $1000 invoice
Emergency Room: $1000 invoice and no admittance in hospital.

Is my payment:

#1
a. Doctor visit 1: $250 + 0.1*250 = $275
b. Doctor visit 2: $250 + 0.1*750 = $325
c. Emergency Room: $250 + $250 (additional deductible) + 0.1*500 = $550

Or
#2
a. Doctor visit 1: $250 + 0.1*250 = $275
b. Doctor visit 2: 0.1*1000 = $100 (because deductible is paid for policy period)
c. Emergency Room: $250 (additional deductible) + 0.1*750 = $325

Thanks,
Jasmeet

It is per policy period.

Therefore, what you described in #2 would be applicable.

Thank you for the prompt response, Mr. Khatri.

My parents will be here for 4 months.

Since, you probably see some of the costs of treatment involved, I wanted to get your opinion on the coverage amount - $100,000 or $500,000?

Also, would IMG be paying negotiated rates or "rack" rates? I am trying to understand how much hospitalization will cost with IMG negotiated rates.

Thanks,
Jasmeet

While $100,000 is a decent amount, I have purchased $500,000 when my own relavites visited USA in past. $100,000 will cover most expenses, but I have seen some claims beyond that.

Insurance company will pay network negotiated rates for the covered expenses. For non covered expenses, it will be between you and the provider.

It is difficult to give any kind of estimate how much the hospitalization will cost per day. It drastically varies depending upon the circumstances, the treatment given, geographic location of the hospital etc. I have seen around $2,000 per day to even $40,000 in a day.
