Car rental collission and loss damage waiver insurance is a good and low-cost alternative to getting the car rental insurance from the car rental company that charges you
around $25 to $30 per day. Travel Guard car rental insurance costs $9/day/car for $35,000 coverage.
You can get the coverage for your rental car, SUVs and passenger vans. However, there is no coverage for trucks, exotic vehicles or off road vehicles as they are excluded
from coverage.
All drivers listed on the rental agreement must be resident of the U.S. (except WA, TX, NY, and NH), Canada and Guam.
Insurance is available for travel in the U.S. and most foreign countries except Ireland and Jamaica. In Mexico, sometimes people have a problem getting it accepted. Additionally, the coverage is
not available where precluded by law or in violation of the territorial terms of the rental agreement or prohibited by individual merchants.
You must be traveling at least 50 miles away from your home on a business or pleasure trip (not to obtain health care or treatment of any kind), must have defined departure and return date not to exceed 180 days and your destination should not be to another home.
You have to buy this insurance any time before you sign the Rental Care Agreement.
Covered
- Damage to your rental car.
- Daily "Loss of Use" charges while the car is being repaired.
Not covered
- Property damage, liability or personal injury.
- Lost or stolen vehicles
- Personal items in the car that may get stolen.
You will need to get that either from the rental car company or see if your regular auto insurance will cover that.
